Hello Runday!

Well, it happened. The mornings have some bite to them again, and fall racing season is officially here.

It's a big week for us. On Thursday, James and I, and our crew head out on the Shoes for Kids 100 Miler, and we'd love for you to be part of it.

Here's what's inside today:

  • How to follow along, cheer on, and support the 100 Miler,

  • A Viking costume 5K (yes, really),

  • An early heads-up on the Fargo Mini,

  • And what you all reach for first on a cold morning.

Enjoy this one, folks. See ya out there!

Shoes for Kids 100 Miler

Help put shoes on kids' feet: MK Shoes for Kids

Each year, elementary students across the Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo area head back to school without shoes they can actually run in. The Mark Knutson Shoes for Kids Legacy Fund changes that, one pair at a time.

And we can change that with miles!

Started in 2010 by Mark Knutson and Fargo Marathon, Inc., and carried on in his memory since 2023, the fund has delivered more than 20,000 pairs of shoes, including over 11,000 since partnering with SCHEELS in 2020.

On October 1st and 2nd, James, I and a very small crew will travel to each school throughout the metro, Me (Jeremy) on foot, and James and the crew in our SAG Wagon. We will cover the 100 miles over the course of 36-40 hours AND hope that you will follow along on our journey!

It's go time!

This Thursday, October 1st, we start at about 7 AM at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School (1601 13th Ave S, Fargo), and from there we'll make our way to schools across the metro, 100 miles in all until we finish up at South High School.

Here's how you can be part of it:

  • Follow along: live tracking will be posted on our Facebook event page.

  • Check the route: find a spot near you on the route map.

  • Show up: cheer from a corner, wave from the sidewalk, bring a sign. Join us for a mile, 10 or the whole thing! Blades, strollers, bikes are welcome!

  • Give: every dollar helps put shoes on kids' feet. Donate here.

36 to 40 hours is a long time on your feet. A friendly face along the way goes a long way!

5 things to unlearn

By: Lindsay Paulson

With 2 recent ultramarathons in the area, and Jeremy’s upcoming 100-mile run supporting Shoes for Kids, I’ve been thinking a lot about patience.

Normally, those types of feats would get me fired up to talk about consistency, discipline, and process - a combo I wrote about on my blog last fall if you’re interested in reading more on that. But patience goes right along with this conversation and is just as important.

Because patience is really underrated. Our world is one filled with “right now” and “instant gratification” everywhere. But good things, like running faster or longer distances, take time. They take consistency, discipline, and process - and it’s tough to have any of that without patience.
The next time you feel frustrated, whether training for a race or managing a setback, remember the power of being patient!

RUNNER’S POLL

Last time, we asked:

First cold morning, what goes on first?

🤠 Hats: (33%)
🧤 Gloves: (29%)
👖 Tights: (29%)
😎 Nothing, I'm fine: (8%)

Hats with a slight edge, with gloves and tights tied right behind. Fargo-Moorhead has clearly done this before.

And to those of you who picked "Nothing, I'm fine"… we see you. We believe you. We'll check back in January.

That’s it for this week.

Next time you hear from us, I’ll (Jeremy) have 100 miles in the legs. Come find us Thursday!

Keep on keepin' on, folks!

Jeremy & James
