Hello Runday!

Running shoe shopping makes me dizzy sometimes!

There are neon ones, matte ones, space-age ones, and at least three pairs that look fast just sitting on the shelf.

And prices always range from β€œreasonable” to β€œdo these come with a personal trainer?”

Needless to say, I left more confused than when I came in… and I’m still wearing my old shoes.

Anyway, lets get into it!

⚑Numbers: The β€œlazy generation” is proving to be no longer lazy!

In 2025, Gen Zers, or 13 to 28 year olds, accounted for:

  • 38 percent of all 5K runners

  • 39 percent of 10K participants

  • 31 percent of half-marathoners

  • 33 percent of full marathon finishers

I wonder what generation would top the podium in our community. Let’s see if we can dig up some data. Stay tuned!

β€œHow Many Miles Should I Be Running?” (The Answer Might Surprise You)

By: Lindsay Paulson

A common question from runners is, "How many miles do I need to run every week to train for X distance." The answer? Probably fewer than you think!

Whether a 5k or full marathon, moreΒ matters than total mileage. For most people, consistency, managing intensity, and weights are important to the process. I recently wrote about a conversation I had with a first-time marathon runner and his top 5 training questions I helped answer.

Word Scramble: Last week’s word: Recovery

ASK DOC

I slipped on ice and now my inner-thigh is tender. Help!

By: Dr. Lizette Sunde

Hip adductor strains affect the inner-thigh muscles that help stabilize your pelvis and control movement. They often happen with sudden direction changes, sprinting, slipping, or returning to activity too quickly.

Common signs:

β€’ Inner-thigh or groin pain

β€’ Pain when squeezing legs together

β€’ Discomfort with walking, running, or getting in/out of a car

Why rehab matters:

Rest alone isn’t enough and can actually delay recovery. Guided movement and progressive strengthening restore strength, improve control, and reduce reinjury risk.

What Not To Do:

Don’t push through pain, this can make a small strain, even larger and progressively worse.

Do Not stretch aggressively!

Recovery:

Mild strains may heal in 1–3 weeks, moderate strains take longer. Returning too soon increases reinjury risk.

Dry needling can help:

When appropriate, dry needling may reduce muscle tension, improve pain, and help restore normal movement, allowing you to progress through rehab more comfortably.

Bottom line:

With the right combination of rehab and targeted treatments, adductor strains heal well and you can return to movement with confidence.
