Some people don’t just show up to a run, they change the entire feel of it. Gongjun (affectionately known as June) is one of those people.

The nominator met him a little over a year ago at one of the nightly beer runs around town. They were new, a little unsure, and before they even had time to feel awkward, Gongjun walked right over, introduced himself, and made them feel like they belonged. That’s just what he does.

If there’s one way to describe Gongjun, it’s joyful and content. He genuinely puts others first. It doesn’t matter what pace he could run, he’ll match what you need. He encourages, supports, and makes sure everyone feels comfortable, seen, and welcome.

Every Thursday night run he organizes, Gongjun makes it a point to welcome new runners. He runs with them. He checks on people. He even cuts through streets to make sure the last runner is on the right path. All while cheering, smiling, and lifting the group up. Rain, heat, cold... none of it changes his energy. He’s always smiling.

In a world that often feels heavy and negative, Gongjun is pure brightness. He radiates positivity. He’s uplifting. He never speaks poorly about anyone. His happiness is real, and it’s contagious. Life genuinely feels better when he’s around.

Beyond the runs, Gongjun gives back constantly. He organizes group runs, makes sure people know they’re invited, volunteers at races when he’s not running, and supports others whenever he can. For some, those Thursday runs are more than miles; they’re relief. Stress melts away. The day feels lighter. And Gongjun is a big reason why.
